What it means is its a day to be proud to be Australian take part in Activities have a drink and go to a bbq wear or plant a flag just go out and enjoy the activities of the day.
Personally i go in to Melbourne City watch the australia day procession then to the shrine of remembrance watch the display the 21 gun salute and the RAAF Roulette fly over air display.
Then down to the music bowl where the indigenous community puts on a welcome to Australia concert have a look through the hand made products at the market then watch indinidious musicians sing and perform great music at the welcome to Australia con as this is a alcohol free event usually leave before night fall and catch up with associates for bbq and drinks afterwards.
