This truly amazes a lowly employee like moi. I've seen restructuring after restructuring, people made redundant aka the cost cutting iniatives, the budget freeze..much needed equipment left unpurchased....so that the books will go back into the blue or green...Red is bad red is bad....Ah...when all these iniatives start to put the books back to blue black or green...Ah hah!!! CEO gets the credit! yes sir! Pay rise once again to the boss who took the iniative$ to ruin people's lives...and disrupt the business activities while he gets a big fat paycheck and share options...etc...

Pardon my rant. Just seeing too many A$$hole$ out there.

It seems so simple but it is so hard to achieve. What most employers forget is that the best asset of a business is a happy team. Sometimes less is more in the long run. Good on you CEO! I hope you set a trend.

This was an interesting nugget:

'Gravity's CEO launched the company from his dorm room at Seattle Pacific University when he was just 19. He's long taken a progressive approach that included adopting a policy allowing his workers to take unlimited paid vacation after their first year.'

Wonder if anyone's taken off on indefinite leave after a year?

It sounds amazing!.. I left Uni with an IT degree and only once in my career have I earned more than 70k... but as my skills and the endless number of technology courses I went on increased.. as my responsibility and stress went up, my wages went down... first 68k as a Network Engineer CCNP... then IT Manager of a Shire Council ... down to $55k.. I begged them not to offer me a promotion or I'd be on the dole.

Sounds like a certain Virgin boss.

I guess it was a case of wrong place wrong time. Seriously IT industry is really a poop store unless you are standing on top of the poop. Very strange how some corporate do treat the IT infrastructure people like a pile of poop. The very people who can get them up and running while their machine gets the poop. It's a negative industry to be in.

I think it was also a case of wrong career choice because like you said I never got to be on top of the poop so as an Infrastructure guy everything that went wrong was my fault and my pay rate reflected it. I've never once had a promotion in my entire working life and was told outright, don't apply for a management job because we'll only give it to people externally. It's ironical that I'm on the same pay rate working as a base level clerk as I was in IT with all the responsibility and skills.

I guess your just a straight honest kind of manager. To stand on top of all poop, you need to be the head BS manipulator. Do BS, talk BS and walk the BS walk. If that's not you, then your not fit to be a manager.

Unless the top guy standing on top of the poop pyramid is like this CEO in the article...I am no managerial material either....politics are poop.

My manager used to turn every meeting into a mass debate, One he talked of his request for a promotion - said that if he didn't get satisfaction he'd have to take it up the chain but he's happy now - he's got the head job

Mass debate eh...if you read it quick enough it just sounded very undesirable...sick sick manager. I'd kick his butt.

Yeah some bosses are only looking after their own interests...frankly I don't give a toss about title...i just wanna do my job right and get paid half a mill, plus share options, a company sports coupe, and couple of sexy female personal assistants. I am a happy Homer.

I'd be happy being treated like crap with no pay provided I could swap my coffee break for a sex break, and annual leave for sex leave. Once I got one of the Human Resources leave forms, and photoshopped the section that said, type of leave as in Annual leave, sick leave, long service leave, and changed one to Sex leave. Then I replaced them all and it was remarkable how many put in for sex leave! I think it was a human resource that they weren't able to supply :p

Hmm so if you're under 18 you have to work your fingers to the bone, and if you're over 18 you have to work your bone with her fingers, finally being older has some benefits :)

Yes under 18 can use some imagination and dirty mags and let their own fingers do the moaning. Over 18's, can definitely work more than her fingers...fingered friends with fringe benefits.
