Starting to feel my age so starting to think more about health cover.
Any recommendations about who I should choose or are they just as bad as each other.

Is it worthwhile??

Dental work I`ve always had done overseas...

Depends on your age
The older you are the more it costs you and continues to keep costing you

Besides ambulance cover I've not really considered private health
I probably should have it...I wear glasses and am falling apart
In Fact I probably need it more today than last week (had a stroke last Tuesday -and I'm only 46)
But just simply can't afford it
Weigh up your options... the costs are high

The problem I see with health funds lately is they have some many entitlements for people they have to keep putting up the premiums to keep making money
Then throw more massages, clinics, blah blah at you that bump the premiums further
It would be nice if someone offered a basic cover without all the extras that covered what I actually needed... but its not the case.

I "self insure" most things including health. Maybe it's not the best idea but I have an implanted defibrillator and pacemaker. I get 6 monthly checks on it, a 6 monthly cardiologist consultation and replacement unit when needed . Cost to me for all this? $0.00! And I've had this cardiac problem for 30 years already! (Price for replacement unit if done in Bangkok $30,000.)

I have been doing my dental in Bangkok though for about16 years. Much cheeper there about a third of the cost of here. I use Bangkok Christian Hospital. It has a great dental department. General dentists and specialists for the complicated stuff. All staff have excellent English and the majority of the dentists are Thai with overseas training.

I did a bit of research by asking a couple companys. It seems that most will only cover the specailist visit while at the hospital. Nothing leading up to it or any of the after surgery care.

Am I wrong to believe that if an illness is going to be that severe then medicare and the public system will take good care of me?
All I don`t get is the choice of my own doctor but as long as I get fixed I don`t really care who it`s by...
