And did it succeed or is it succeeding? A couple I know have done all the right things by their children - sent them to good schools, stable home background, encouraged them without pushing them etc. One son won a scholarship to a University over east and the first two years began to top his class and win prizes and then suddenly cracks began to appear. Long story short, he's now a marijuana addict with all the side effects it entails. They've stood by him but it's obvious he's not putting in the effort himself where he can.

Finally his dad had to give him the ultimatum and said it's up to HIM (the son) to do something. Mum and I aren't going to waste any time on your 'til YOU prove YOURSELF. We'll be here for you but we're not going to f**k our lives up anymore 'cos it's affecting the rest of us. So go sort your shit out 'til you're back on your feet.

The couple feel an enormous amount of guilt but all their counsellors say it's the right thing to do. Meanwhile there are a couple of friends who are giving them a hard time about it. But it's the not the first such case I've heard.

Have you ever had to practice "tough love" and has it worked or is it still a work in progress?

... Marijuana addict? 🤦🏼‍♂️ How does that even happen?

All through college, I smoked more than a mf'ing chimney - every single day. If I didn't have glassware available, I made my own bongs out of two litre bottles and used fruit as pipes when need be. Literally next day after graduation, I just didn't do it. It was.. easy? Idk, I don't get it and might be missing something but I reckon you've got to have some fucking low ass will power to not be able to stop pot. Purely my opinion on it.

I always thought helping someone was a good thing... until my doctor proved me otherwise by explaining insights towards a different perspective..

The documentary series "Intervention" shows this best. It's extremely sad and you really feel for them suffering.

I’ve watched this one, (below)... definitely needs an emphasised trigger warning... not one for the light hearted... but indeed an eye-opener

I actually downloaded the entire series, there's an insane amount of episodes.

Yeah definitely not for those easily bothered by or sensitive to these issues. Very eye opening

I gather the "field" (no pun intended) of marijuana has evolved from the skunk weed it was in the 60s. You get chemical marijuana which doesn't show up in drug tests which was the subject of quite a few newspaper articles a while ago. You've genetically modified stuff which is stronger, there's stuff that's grown hydroponically and finally it is a gateway drug to harder substances.
