So, would you like to be forever young?

I have just watched a movie called "The Age of Adaline" - miraculously remaining a youthful 29 years of age for nearly eight decades, never allowing herself to get close to anyone lest they discover her secret.

I suppose this is one of the many spin-offs of the novel - "The Picture of Dorian Gray" by Oscar Wilde where the main character never ages.

Knowing that your friends, family and all those around you will age - if you could - would you like to stay "Forever Young"???

I would easily have stayed around 30 forever... getting older sucks, it's not that you feel any different but just the way others treat you. It's like musical chairs, you sing and dance while the music is playing and one day the music stops and if you're left with out a chair - ie a good job, good relationship and financial security, socially your on the outer and it's an almost impossible task to get back in.

Nope. I was a complete douche at 20. Much better at 30. Maybe there'll come a day when I look back and think there's an age I would have liked to remain at. But will have to get back to you on that one.

It is not necessary a good thing - when you look a lot younger than your real age:

People with similar age / interest often mistaken you as a junior. ( don't have many friends with similar age - friends either much older or much younger )

People mistaken your parent as grandparent

Often get to socialise with people 15 to 20 years younger ( great but sometimes you feel weird to tell people about your age )

Constantly have people asking about your age is very annoying.

The positive is that you can do everything younger people do and no one will judge you being an old fart.

The scary part is while it all sounds great, but often wonder when your body decided it is time to look older, one day - you may age much quicker than most people.

I rather born old and grow young. You would have some crappy 30 yrs then its downhill from there...
that is very much "the Benjamin Button" movie theme..........I am pretty sure Brad Pitt has something to do with it.
No, I don't want to be forever young. Growing older and finally growing old is part of the experience we all encounter on this planet (so far at least) so better accept it and go as disgracefully and with as much fun as possible.

You know your movies...lol...

Forever young would be great if your bank acct never runs out. I hate to be forever living under a bridge.

I am 35 and still get mistaken for 20. At least ten times a day.

I found myself much more comfortable in my own skin when I stopped fighting it.

Just relax, accept it as part of your identity. Find a way to make your responses into a little game ("higher! lower! now let's guess in dog years!") or just learn how to be really comfortable with the same questions, and adjust your answers to be a nice mix of humility and confidence (but mostly confidence). It's only irritating if you want it to be, and sometimes that depends on the person who's asking too. Dickheads are gonna dick, there's not a lot I can do about that. But I can control how I feel about it myself.

In other words, build your self-esteem around what is essentially an asset, not a liability. It's all about perspective : )

----

On a side note, I see the youthful-looks as a huge advantage in the sex industry, in my case especially for the gentlemen who have a bit of 'yellow fever'. I have the sexual (and emotional) maturity of mid-30s but I still look 20. Clients are getting 15 years of experience in the sack whilst still being able to pretend or imagine (or be fooled!) into thinking they're with a younger girl. In all the feedback I've had so far, there are plenty out there who see this as a HUGE bonus!!

Most movies which explore this concept like in Age of Adaline, Curious Case of Benjamin Button, or even Interview with the Vampire, it always shows that its not all that its cracked up to be. All the people you love die, and you will feel the loneliness.

I have a theory that you don't age while you have sex. Some of the working ladies are well over 120 yet look 24. I have been doing my best to help them stay looking young :)
Yeah Dallas, your effort is highly appreciated..........
because that's me after a "sex" break of several weeks........I bet other ladies suffer the same condition.......

For me, it would depend on what standard of living I enjoyed. Being poor and homeless for eternity would be a drag; living like a king with a long line of concubines could be tolerable.

But yes, you wouldn't want to get too close to others -- outliving generations of your own children would be insufferable I imagine.

We are social beings and very few of us are wired to be alone. In some of the science fiction you have people who go into hibernation or cryogenic sleep and wake up 100 years later. If this really happened I think the psychological impact of their utter loss of all they have known would be such a shock they would become deranged. I would rather go gentle into that good night.

Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Though wise men at their end know dark is right,
Because their words had forked no lightning they
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright
Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,
And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight
Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

And you, my father, there on the sad height,
Curse, bless, me now with your fierce tears, I pray.
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

I am past the half way mark...on the downhill slide
But, I feel happy, content and optimistic about life.
I would not want to go backwards, I enjoy my headspace too much right now.
If I could look 10 years younger, I would put my hand up for that!
I enjoy and try to make the most of every day...say yes to new experiences and opportunities
and create good memories to keep me warm as the years roll on (all too fast).
