Been a while and with a few new members perhaps it`s time to ask again how some of us feel about extras??

Not the extras from your R&T lady or a W/L but instead extra pay for those who happen to have to work on weekends.
Seems a few resturant bosses were complaining they couldn`t afford to open since the penalty rates would be too high so are now appealing for the workers to be paid a flat rate.
How many government offices, trade people, banks etc work past 5pm or are open on Saturday and Sunday?
Should those that work in hospitality or retail be paid more on weekends or in the evening?
Why shouldn`t they be rewarded?

When I was working in Thailand I routinely worked evenings and on weekends. No penalty rates there but the hours suited my lifestyle at that time.
Today in Perth many people would like to work outside of normal hours for lifestyle reasons. It's a pity for them if they can't work when they want because many places stay closed, particularly on Sundays because of the high cost of trading?

Penalties must stay. Removal will drive wages down. Our labours are already profitable to any employer. Don't want to pay penalties? Hire casuals.
Don't want to pay penalties? Sell the BMW.

I took the fam to the movies on Oz day and no penalties, actually got cheaper tickets, afterwards stopped for a beer and nibblies at a nearby brewery and got charged 15% extra. I'm originally from the east and never had that, I was quite shocked.
