Eftpos charges

Just wanted to say I think people need to stop agreeing to eftpos charges as there is no good excuse for them to do so, it’s simply for them to earn more money or to force you to pay cash to avoid tax, generally prefer to pay cash but as we all know that’s not always an option so hopefully if people keep refusing it will force them to stop trying to rip us off, cheers fellas

The reason why businesses charge fees to use Eftpos in small business such as an AMP is that the bank that provides the machine charges a transaction fee for each purchase made on the machine. It's not Illegal as long as the surcharge is equal or less to the transaction fee imposed by the bank. If you are a big company such as Coles/Woolworths etc you can afford to absorb such fees. See below for a link on further information about transaction fees:

Can you charge customers for EFTPOS fees? How much? (mobiletransaction.org)

Legally you can only charge people for the actual cost of the transaction so charging $5 or 10% per charge is illegal, and the charges must be visible before a charge is made. Also pricing of service I suppose to cover your expenses this is basic knowledge in business and also why you’re almost always never being charged from any business big or small, Asian shops tend to be the exception due to a large portion of them doing tax fraud

Wooper, the reason they are charging 10% via EFTPOS is for the GST...Paying via CC makes it a legit transaction which means they have to pay GST on it...Paying via cash is not recorded so they don't have to declare it...
It's like any tradie job - pay cash and get 10% off...

On the massage pricelist they only state $70/hr - not $70/hr incl GST or Excl. GST...it's a grey area I guess...
Some charge full 10%, some don't charge extra...I believe it is from Amp to Amp

legally to charge for eftpos use you can ONLY charge the fee they’re being charged, adding extra cost to it like $5/10% is actually illegal and you must have a sign stating any extra fees prior to paying, and yes “cashies” are common amongst tradies and they’re illegal because it’s tax evasion

You do realize that in the sex industry we are charged higher fees and interest rates right as we are often considered a high-risk business? But of course we prefer cash, so win win

I’m not sure what you’re referring to but that doesn’t sound right, all business have cost whether it’s servicing fixing replacing needing to adhere to government rules and regulations that’s why when you provide products or services you make up for those cost when you do pricing, adding a sneaky price ontop of eftpos use is not ok we are in a digital era and no other businesses do this so it isn’t excusable

it might not sound right to you, but it is. I manage a venue in Darwin and I assure you I speak the truth and how is it sneaky if you are aware of the charge? If you don't like it pay cash, most places have an ATM on site you are welcome to use instead - cash makes our lives easier too, lol

What exactly is more expensive for sex workers then anyone else ? And cash isn’t always an option,

I just mentioned above that a business in the sex industry pay higher fees and charges, I'm not talking about individual sex workers.
What fees though ? And how is it different from any other business that has expenditures? The comparing argument never works as there’s always someone else who will pay more for something that another pays less
