Does your SMS messages take hours to arrive?

My sister raised this with me yesterday, and I believe if you are on a cheap plan, they slow you down near the end of your month, and then your SMS takes much longer to be delivered.
Is this True?
I have added this post so the privates & working ladies learn that they need good plans if they are going to get service, sometimes a bit more is far more effective....

I have a new phone, but am a tight arse when it comes to my plans. I always go for the cheaper one. Sometimes my texts can take 2 days to arrive and often a few hours. Im going to look into this as it's very annoying and maybe will be sorted by spending a little more. Thanx MrsL

This is such a good point to highlight , I’ve never noticed it before but I will be sure to keep an eye on it

I’m probably on one of the higher plans because I travel a lot, but have had some trouble with emails and stuff coming through. It’s definitely something we all need to keep an eye on xx

I don't think being on a cheaper plan delays SMS. Poor reception can though.
Agree. I’m not sure they’re going to go to the trouble of deliberately slowing down the cheaper plans and risk losing them to a competitor.

If you’re sending an iMessage for example and the other person has their phone turned off or data turned off when overseas for example, it won’t go through unless your phone is set to send as SMS if the iMessage send fails.

Also if you update your phone regularly it slows it down as well . It's a way of getting you to buy a new phone . Found that out when I had a iPhone.

Could be to do with volume of txts on a cheaper plan. If you abuse it they can cancel the plan.
I wouldn't trust someone like Kogan to be reliable, but I do occasionally seem to get late messages.
Lots of pictures might cause a problem too.

Yes I agree. Its also the location.

I agree with this. I’ve found that when I’m overseas and on roaming it can definitely be slower when you’re connected to the local carrier service. I pay a tonne for my phone plan, and still not immune from this issue while traveling…

Yes, in terms of features, but as I said I have had situations with up to 24 hours delay on messages.
I am with Telstra and they have always been instant in the Metro area. I guess there are variables like provider and location in play. Also have noticed before when I was up north some messages did not send until I was in range of an antenna so it could also be a sender issue.

There can be delays if you're with one provider and the recipient is with another. I find that Telstra to Vodaphone can take hours. Not always, but often enough to be an issue.

RCS is not supported by Iphone just yet, but apparently apple plan to support it at some stage.

The carriers dont slow down Texts based on your plan, but as a few people have mentioned it will be due to

1) Poor Reception
2) Clogged/At Capacity Phone
3) If the User was previously an IPhone user, and switched back, the SMS can take up to 2 - 3 days as it try to send the message "Blue" iphone style, and sits there till there is no reply then will default to the Green (TXT) style message. When you send a message with the Iphone you'll notice your delivery report at the bottom it should change to delivered almost instantly.
