Years ago you would work in the same place forever almost
as you found you respected your Bosses, they respected you back...
You totally trusted them and they gained your trust...
And you would be loyal to your Boss for a long long time.....

Do you find this is a thing of the past......?
Are you in a job where you are just a number?

So true ...
But only these days UNFORTUNATELY....

I remember a nicer time when I was growing up and my parents & my friends' parents had jobs they stayed in forever and loved it......
and they sincerely took pride in their jobs & their Bosses took pride in them.....

These are the times we live in :arghh::arghh::arghh:

when i was first introduced into the work force it was completely about respect, enjoying what you do and doing it to the best of your ability.. people can only enjoy a job if they want to work to and let them selves.. sadly it seems however that most people only want to work to get paid rather then take time enjoy and take pride in their chosen field... bring back the joy and pride to the workplace!!!!

I'm still friendly with most of my past employers (except for when I sold papers after school aged 12 and my mean manager from Snow Deli when I was 14), great friends still with my boss from a take away shop I worked in aged 15 (then I studied again), one lady who I am still very close friends with is now in her late 70s, I worked for her over 20 years ago on reception @ Adina's, my landscaping boss (i loved the work but the company is now based to far away) who I worked with on and off for 18 years (between rugrats) is also now one of my best friends, I call her Aunty these days though we are in no way related and met when I was 18. And my time with Maryanne has always been exciting, informative and sometimes even fun and I can talk to her. I guess I have built trust, loyalty and great friendships with past employers. But it doesn't seem as common in a lot of my friends pasts/present with employers, some jobs just don't allow for getting personal.

That is really the type of person you must come across as....a person who likes to build a relationship
on a one to one basis to your fellow colleagues or bosses....:cat::)
.though sometimes you must have been tired --- ONCE I was almost sure you were grumpy....

we all have our off days I suppose Dear Tania!:confused:

In today's corporate world, honesty is the last thing employers want to hear as it will surely limit any career aspirations
yes but it is 1 way traffic and you always loose as an employee . it always comes back to what you can do for them and their pocket

Exactly johnlou ... these are choices WE have to choose to make...
it would be our own personalities that would be the most reason we do the things we would do.....
and anything we chose to do would be the right thing for us!

I've seen my Husband go through jobs where he is just a number, where they have no respect for their employees and would be more than happy to work you 80 hrs a week at a rather low rate. And even though this was the case he stayed with them for 5+ yrs. Bigger companies and corporations from what I've seen from those who have worked in them, treat their employees rather disposable. There will always be a new schmuk around the corner desperate for money to support their family.

I'm new to working, I spent 10 years being a stay at home mum and student, so I don't have much to go on personally.

I'm not so sure it's something I set out to do,,I guess I just do the right thing, am honest and loyal, my bosses who I have become such good friends with are good people, who have treated me well, are understanding and I repay them in kind. The friendships developed from good work relationships, based on trust, honesty, respect and loyalty and nature has taken it's course :)

These comments are interesting to me. They are the same ones I heard a few years ago in the US, so it seems it's the same - or becoming the same - here.

There is no loyalty at work, whether you're the Man or just working for the Man.

We are just mercenaries, hired guns, brought in to do a task, get paid for it, then said goodbye. Once you understand this, though, it's not so bad. There's as much freedom in it for us as for the employing companies. It's just different from the way things used to be - but we can adapt.

in the last 20 years i have lived by these same rules ( i am nothing but a hired gun ) no more and no less , this is why i never feel bad when the jobs run out as i have never invested my time in a company like wage earners do and when they are released from their jobs they hit the depression market really hard .
we work to get paid in 1 form or another , it depends on the individual

The boss needs to set an example for all to follow otherwise he will be made an example.
If your talking about the 1900's where industrialization conquered the world, and your an employee for life in the same company, where they provided for you, guaranteed super and other benefits after retirement, then hell loyalty makes sense.

These days where they can make your position redundant in a day and hire a young sexy foxy lady in a week to replace you. Loyalty is as good as peanuts. Nowadays, your just a statistic in a company, profit margin is down 20% therefore, Homer is part of the cull that will save the company 20% of spending.

I'd happily work for peanuts if all life expenses are taken care of.

When I was young and innocent I used to listen and follow advises of my relatives, " friends" etc, and by the time I got myself to 29 , realize I was unhappy and sorry for myself.... Since I turn 30 y.old have never ever work at any place where I wouldnt get respect. Never did the job I dont like. Listen only to my own heart. If I don't respect my boss I would walk away. Money isnt everything. I need happy environment to make good earnings. Some people can put up with whatever they given for $$$$$$ sake, I can't.... Life is too short have miserable job and relationship. life.jpg
