I dunno Yoda, i just find bruce lee a bit overated. Same with jackie chan (just not as alive lol).

One of my training partners has spent years studying asian based martial arts. His speed is phenominal but it all seems a bit wanky. When my other training partner (boxer) puts on the gloves, the pads get scared.

But im all for studying / training in any exercise or sport but i just dont get some martial arts. Same goes for wrestling. Least the wwe is entertaining but the olympic version is a bit odd

Yeah...Bruce was an amazing athlete. He would be the best atbany discipline or sport. To me its not about comparing arts. Its more about the uncovering the potential of each individual.

I think you chaps have forgotten context. It was the 70s and Lee was the first one to cross the Eastern/Western genres. And some of his kung fu movies were in English. He pulled in crowds at the box office and taught actors like James Coburn and script writer Steven Sillphant.

To put it in another context, I'm into movies as a genre of interest but not boxing - I think it's like saying Muhammad Ali was just some black boxer and Mike Tyson would have kicked his arse.

I get that Suz but i just dont understand the appeal behind either Bruce and Brandon Lee.

Maybe your more interesting after your dead? Suppose it's worked for some. Van Gogh comes to mind

Well when people say x or y or z is over rated, they quite often fail to assess the context. That's why I don't get the concept of naming someone as "The greatest of all time". They were more than likely the greatest of THEIR time.

The appeal of Bruce Lee being what it is for their time and playing a pioneering role which led the way for others.

Much as I'm not a fan of theirs, many an Australian musician with a sense of honesty, will actually admit that Air Supply (yes... cringe factor) paved the way for other Australian musicians to re-invade the US in the 80s.

Jackie Chan has made plenty of very entertaining movies mostly pre Hollywood.

I like Chuck Norris but he mostly made stinkers.

Bruce Lee had charisma by the bucket load. But he made only a few movies (Sad)

As long as I'm entertained I'm happy.

What you forgot Bruce Lee is that he was a genius!
Most of the movies he was in was written by him.
He came into America with limited contact and against all belief, taught his art to non Asian.
He even wrote the story behind the series kung fu.
Invented Jeet kun do and went to all different school of martial art and made friends!
Yes, his kung fu prowess was over rated but he was the first to have brough kung fu into America..
No matter how good the next generation is, Bruce Lee will still always be the first..

He is a martial artist and a philosopher.
He found it tough in Hollywood. He couldn't get a leading role in TV shows and movies. He made comments about how Asian characters were played by Caucasians. Stereotyping, etc.
He indeed wrote Kung Fu and was not offered the lead role. Instead they got a Caucasian to play the lead role.
He is a legend.

I LOVE BRUCE LEE,I LOVE JACKIE CHAN!!!!
The very first time I saw an Asian man it is was in 1980's at the movies and it was Jackie Chan.......
This was because in those days in Soviet Union we weren't allowed to watch movies from overseas, but for some reason they allowed this movie whit Jackie Chan...He is a legend.
