Chaotic thoughts

Hi all
I'm only recently (3 yrs) disabled, due to spinal column injury. I find it restricting – I have trouble maneouvering in bed and sometimes in maintaining an erection. I'm lucky to be in a stable relationship. I hate to think of trying to date at my age and with disabilities.

The good thing is that I'm alive and that the diability suport pension is tax free - until you are 65! No logic in that. Since I still do some work I get a mobility allowance which is welcome and reasonably free from Centrelink hassels.

I'm also involved in a council committee trying to improve access to the town buildings and facilities for the disabled. Suggests welcomed.

How do other guys and girls manage? There must be some tricks to maintaining a healthy lifestyle and sexlife when disabled,

Cheers

welcome aboard chaos and thankyou for posting on our forum. Hope you get some good ideas and thoughts of our members and we appreciate any feedback from those who can give you some advice etc.

What sort of town buildings in particular are you lobbying for as I am sure there are lots of buildings that may be old and hard to make changes, and what types of changes are you trying to get them to do out of curiosity.
many thanks

Totally funny story relating to access and a bucks night

Hi Serena and chaos,

Serena your post got me thinking about my bucks night about 5 years ago. I am divorced now (bitch left me while I was away competing for my country) and this is a true story of what happened to me.

After having drinks at home with friends and the mandatory stripper we headed into northbridge to a strip club, I think it was called Exotica. Now, I was 2 and a half years out of hospital, totally comfortable with my disability and VERY independent, however, still wheelchair bound. We went to the strip club and the only way in was up a narrow stair case, some 20 odd steps high. Now, ordinarily I would get out of my chair and transfer up each step individually, a slow process but at least I knew I was getting up the stairs under my own steam. But this time I was under the influence of a few drinks and had a coupe of mates get me out of mny chair and lift me up the stairs.

So I was the first in the line of guys going up the stairs there was me and the two guys carrying me up, then 4 more guys, then another guy carrying my chair up at the back of the pack.

We got to the top of the stairs to the bouncers and the pay booth, my legs dangling under the firemans lift that my mates had me in, when the bouncer stopped us and asked if I could walk. No big deal, its a question I have been asked a million times before, and in my half drunken state replied "f!@k no!!". He then said, "well then if you cant walk you aren't allowed in." My mates almost dropped me right there and then to beat the crap out of the bouncer but I asked why and he replied with "well if you are so drunk you cant walk then I cant let you in". We all just burst out in laughter as I explained I was in a wheelchair and couldn't possibly walk even if I was as straight as a die.

The bouncer hadn't seen my chair at the end of the pack, carried by a guy that was about half way up the stairs. We had a great night there, the girls were awesome, coming up to our table and dancing, not just dancing on the stages, really made me feel good.

Anyway, yeah in response to Chaos's request for making buildings accessible, the strip clubs in particular aren't accessible at all, that club, Exotica and The Doll House are two places that I have personally visited that dont have access, I am sure there are more, I just dont know about em.

Hi Bronzed.

I myself am in a wheelchair. I have a disability called Spina Bifida, which has kept me in the chair since birth.

I am a big on going to the Doll House myself, (even though I haven't been back in the last year or so). The bouncers there are really good about helping you up the stairs, and as you probably know already, the girls are great and very friendly, (most of them anyway).

If you have anymore ideas of how to make these palces more accessible, just message me on the forum.

Take care,

Simplest way for them to make it more accessible is to install a stair lift. they basically mount to the stair rails and hydraulically lift you up them. With so many places being edgey about workplace safety, its getting harder and harder to get up stairs in these types of places.

The stair lifts arent cheap but that's what needs to be done. Places will say they cant justify the cost and until the proper legislation is in place, no modifications will be made to these places
