Beware of going to a skin clinic in Australia

If you have a lump or bump go thru your GP for a biospy, do not go to a skin clinic and have done.
I did this recently at The South perth Skin Clinic and they took a biopsy and came back and said it was a Sarcoma a mid range cancer that may turn dangeous at a later stage.
They then pushed me to have a barbacue light treatment that cost over $3500 over two appointments.
I took the treatment but then got suspicious and as was going to Bumrungrad Hospital for a medical holiday with @Kate VIP Perth @SallyK I decided to do another autopsy on both the spots where I had a wart like growth.
The results are back and NO evidence of Skin cancer they said I have Seborrheic Keratosis (benign skin growth) one of the joys of old age.

So are you saying the Local clinic here in Perth are somewhat over treating or treating when there was need to do so? as that is how I read that, and if so what grounds do you have for compensation if there is any avenues you could pursue here?

However looking at that Hospital in Thailand it looks modern as, which it rather amazing really to all the news etc we get from some nations.

I suppose in the end of this you now know what it actually is, which must be a relief for you no doubt.

I hear fully what you are saying however I have had similar diagnosis of both benign and potentially dangerous skin cancers from providers here in Perth. To date I haven’t experienced anything that suggests the results provided to me have been anything but accurate. The treatments all have been successful and covered in part by Medicare.

Some of mine were covered by private medical insurance, and that is where lies the problem, the fine print when I got the analysis after the treatment said maybe a scarcoma and this was right at the bottom after it explained what was needed for sacrcoma. My sister in law had the same problems at the same clinic a over sell. I am saying do your analysis thru your GP he will refer you for further treatment and more of the treatments will be covered by medicare xxx

Agree with what you are saying, especially the fine print containing information that they should provide upfront. My comments were not to contradict what your experience was, more to provide balance that not all clinical providers follow these dodgy practices.

Other major issue with private health and the provision of procedures in ‘clinics’ is in a lot of cases you can have the same minor treatments done in a private or public hospital and be covered by Medicare and private heath insurance. I had laser surgery done on constricted veins in my leg in a private clinic at a cost of close to $5000 and got zilch back from Medicare and private insurance. Sure there are reasons why that is the case but it would be nice if some form of equalisation could be applied as to how private health insurance can be utilised in a private clinic setting.

Cheers.

It makes a difference if you go with a referral from your doctor.

On a positive note, your complexion is now flawless after the light therapy 🫡
