HEARTBREAK AT GALUNGAN
Today, on the morning of the holiest day on the Balinese Hindu calendar, we received the photo below – of Boni (top) 10 months old and Agli 3 months old – and this painful report from SANUR:
“Two of our office dogs who were well taken care of were poisoned to death early this morning in Sanur (Jalan Bypass Ngurah Rai No. 9A near Kopi Bali House). We just vaccinated them against rabies yesterday and they were wearing collars (one of them was even wearing the yellow collar provided by the government of Bali). They were scheduled for sterilisation on 21 July, and we are completely heartbroken now.
“I am sending this report to you so that you can use it to protect other innocent dogs and cats here in Bali.”
Boni and Agli were found dead at 9.30am today inside the property on which they lived and would rarely leave, never going far. At 1am they were healthy.
NOTE: BAWA does not know who poisoned these lovely dogs or why. A puppy is missing which may mean 3 dogs are dead. We thank the reporter and are very sorry for the loss of yet more healthy, loved Bali dogs. The vet who vaccinated Boni yesterday said her own dog was recently poisoned in front of her house on Jl Sekuta, Sanur.
We condemn whoever is doing this for their senseless action and disgraceful disrespect for humans and for animals and for violating the Hindu principle of Ahimsa (non-violence) on this Galungan day.
In SANUR and EVERYWHERE in Bali, KEEP YOUR ANIMALS SAFE AND AT HOME.
** ARRESTED & FINED IN THAILAND:
Soi Dog Foundation reports that on 4 July 2015 a man was charged and fined for poisoning a dog claimed to be killing his chickens. After a citizen reported the poisoning Soi Dog Foundation
worked with local police to investigate. The man was charged with ANIMAL: CRUELTY without reasonable cause. A court fined him 6000 THB (Rp235,000) and issued a suspended jail sentence.

Both THAILAND and MALAYSIA have recently introduced NEW ANIMAL WELFARE LAWS. It is time for INDONESIA to keep pace with its ASEAN partners and to do the same.
