We go to Woolies etc and buy our sisal fibre bags so we don't use plastic bags
But on my holiday in Malawi we went to a sisal farm Most there product is sold to make bags for supermarkets Only problem is they've cleared thousands and thousands of hectares of native bush to grow this crop
Losing diversity and habitat for native wildlife

Are we letting businesses say oh look aren't we being good to the environment
When all they are doing is pandering to people who want to feel good without really doing a thing for the environment

Two way problem, it is good in the long run these people have jobs that only clearing the land like your grandfather did when he arrived in Australia did.

Plastic bags at super markets is the biggest rort ever, In South Australia you can buy plastic bags in woolies and coles not the same ones as we have in Perth, but different ones this is if you forget your bags in the boot in your car... However you can go to Wittner, Cue, Myers, David Jones buy products and get a plastic bag for free, this green ideal is costly to the end customer, and IMO its a joke, Recycling lets buy say a can of coke, which part of the price is the actual can its self, we drink the can hurl the empty into the bin, essentially giving it away for someone to make free money on... If say our leaders were kosher on this , why not do what South Australia does .05 cents return drive along the Eyre Highwway from Port Augusta to Eucla WA on the SA side the road is clean and decent cross into WA and its littered with Cans and Bottles... go figure hey...

Its a joke....

But we rehabilitated the land and now use friendly methods now
We could use even better methods but the price of your lamb roast would be higher And the everyday shoppers would then complain

As for Africa I partially disagree Yes work for locals is good But many multinationals run these properties
And those that are run by traditional owners often slash and burn causing more trouble For which there is now no excuse

In Indonesia the government have done absolutely nothing to prevent slash and burn
Just because a 100 yrs it was Okay is no reason to allow it in the 21st century

We have to move to sustainable farming every where not just in the West

Couldn't agree more: just because our forefathers were ignorant of the long-term consequences of their farming and other practices does not mean it should be OK to continue doing the same thing now, when it's so well known that it's no good for anyone in the not-so-long term. The Land of the Free used slaves to pick cotton and stuff up to the 1860s; is anyone suggesting therefore that should be condoned in 2016?
Who cut you off, H2?
