What I really enjoy when travelling in Asia is to go into a bar and have a friendly lady sit next to me, chat, and be, well, friendly. Of course I buy her a drink, buy the server a drink, and maybe her friend too. Sometimes we head back to the hotel, sometimes not. But I always have a good time and am made to feel welcome.

I would much rather sit an talk with a girl than watch one on stage, even if she is just drinking $8 orange juice. Its just nice to have the company.

Are there any places like than in Perth? Has anyone tried to set one up? Or is it that the economics of min wage and licencing just don't work out?

But being polite and respectful, and flashing a little cash around, helps to bridge these false idea's.

There is the possibility of this at some of the karaoke places in Northbridge. I don't really have any further information, except that they cost an arm and a leg. But there might be some mention of this on the forum somewhere, if you use the search function. I think there was Galaxy Karaoke maybe? Best of luck.

Depends on the kind of bar you visit.
In Phnom Penh there are scores of hostess bars. Beautiful girls, fully clothed (though dressed very sexily) and reasonable English.
Drinks not expensive, whiskey soda $2 lady drink $3. The girls are very happy to sit and talk to you for as long as you wish and leave it at that if you don't want to take things further. Perhaps give them a small tip if you've talked to them a long time ($5 to $10).
The ladies are not pushy at all. However, they only get paid a small retainer salary by the bar ($100 per month) and make most of their money by being taken out. If you want to do that you pay the $10 "bar fine" and the young ladies charge around $50 all night.
Great places to visit. These prices are current prices in Cambodia where $US are used everywhere by locals and foreigners alike.
